ARTICLES >> Video Poker Terms
Like many online casino games, video poker has its own language and slang terms. Here are some definitions to help demystify some of the chat you might hear from other players and employees in the house.

Cycle: The statistically predicted average number of hands per royal flush (or other top jackpot). In other words, a "cycle" is simply the reciprocal of the probability of a royal on the next hand. There is only a 63.2% probability of at least one royal in one cycle, but this balanced by the chances of two or more royals in one cycle.

Expected Return: The average amount of money won on a particular play for a particular bet. The Expected Return is the Expected Value of a play multiplied by the amount bet.

Expected Value: The statistically projected average per-unit-bet payback of a particular play. It is the average of all possible outcomes for a particular play or game.

Full Pay: This refers most profitable payoff that is offered for a particular uk casino game. An example would be Jacks or Better or Triple Sevens.

Optimum Play:  This is a strategy that is not designed to win every time but minimize the casino’s house advantage and yield the highest wins possible per hour of play.

Payback: The long term expected return of a game as it is being played. It is often expressed as a percent age but it is also sometimes expressed as an expected value.

Payoff: This is the number of coins or credits paid for a particular winning hand.

Payoff Schedule: Each slot or video poker machine's complete payoff schedule is posted on the glass front or on the screen. In an online casino it is somehow posted in the virtual room or on the graphic of the machine. This is a table that shows the number of coins paid for each possible final hand for each possible number of coins bet.

Payout: This refers to the actual dropping of coins by a machine into a hopper. Some machines drop a payout after every play and others accumulate credits and then dispense tokens or coins into a hopper or tray after a Cash Out button is pressed. Some types of machines present a cash voucher that is redeemed by the casino.

Push: In a blackjack game this refers to when the player and dealer tie by turning up identical hand values. In video poker, however, the machine has already swallowed your bet and the machine declares the non-refunded money as a win!

Secondary Payoff: This refers to a hand that is less than what you expected after you discard and make a final draw. For example you might be expecting Four of a Kind and end up with Three of a Kind instead. The result is a secondary pay off for holding Three of a Kind.

Zilch: This means nothing. You have “zilch” if you are dealt five cards and you want to discard them all as they don’t have any potential. It can also refer to a final hand that draws absolutely no pay off from the video poker machine. There are some games play nicely on internet like bingo and many more.
